The Jewish Ghetto was established in 1555 by Pope Paul IV that forced all the Roman Jews to stay in Sant’ Angelo District near the Tiber Island. For many centuries the Jewish citizens were forced to suffer prohibitions and segregations till 1870, the year of the breach of Porta Pia and of the complete abolishment of the ghetto. TheTempio Maggiore in Rome, one of the biggest synagogues in Europe, that you’ll visit during the tour, was built during the first years of the 20th Century.
In Rome’s Jewish Museum you’ll retrace the history of the Ghetto through historical documents, precious and ancient handmade items. You’ll visit the old Ghetto alleys and the Church of S. Angelo in Pescheria. In Piazza Mattei you’ll find the wonderful Turtle Fountain (1581).

You’ll be able to lunch in one of the typical Jewish-Roman restaurants. In the afternoon, crossing the Pons Fabricius, also known as “iudeorum”, you’ll get to the Tiber Island where you’ll continue your excursion.
At the end of the day: transfer with Rome Private car of our NCC company to the hotel or other destination.
